House Island Maine Harbor Club Wedding
As a couple who lives on a boat and on a river in the middle of PA, I don’t think boats couldn’t somehow be involved in Ali & Pat’s wedding. Patrick grew up along Casco Bay & in the Portland, Maine area. He brought Ali home many times throughout their relationship so House Island was their perfect venue for their wedding. Everything about Ali & Pat’s wedding felt like them, and that’s truly why I was in love with it.
As we boarded the water taxi for House Island in the morning I checked the weather to see some incoming storms, but not until after the ceremony. I sighed in relief, but the plans would definitely have to change because the storms looked enormous. Ali and Pat were holding their ceremony and cocktail hour on the island, but the reception on the mainland which was only a 10 minute taxi by water away.
The level of personality out of these two and their entire wedding party fueled me. Their energy was contagious and gave me a huge boost. Ali and Pat shared a very emotional first look on a beach nearby the cottages before their wedding party joined them for some of the most high energy wedding party portraits I have ever taken. The guests were slowly arriving by water taxi and ferry, over 200 of them which was no small task!
After the ceremony the clouds started getting darker by the minute and we were in a little more of a rush to evacuate the island after hearing that there were actual tornadoes incoming. Waves picked up, and the rain came down like a waterfall in the spring. The power in the tent was even knocked out for a while when we arrived back at the reception! And thank goodness that tent with sidewalls was there. Just walking the bathroom 60 feet away was enough to soak the guests.
The wedding party was on the last boat back over and completely soaked. Ali & Pat laughed it off and decided to enjoy it! There’s no reason to not enjoy your wedding just because of a little rain.
